Book: Understanding Deaf Culture.

Lately I have read a new book called Understanding Deaf Culture: In Search of Deafhood through my Iphone, Ipad or Ipod depends on where I am doing or what tablet I am in mood to use for some reading. The book is wrote by Dr. Paddy Ladd who is deaf researcher, author, activist and scholar in Deaf culture. It’s fantastic book to read to learn about deaf culture and the meaning of it and helps anyone to understand Deaf culture for deaf and hard of hearing as well, and as well the language of American Sign Language (ASL) and how it begins. I highly recommend you to buy the book and read the book if you are interested to learn about Deaf culture and as well the people of Deaf and hard of hearing and their fantastic language American Sign Language (ASL). Today a lot of people don’t know the definition of deaf or hard of hearing and they never will because they won’t give themselves the chance to learn. Even most of the people don’t know that deaf and hard of hearing people have their own culture, because they do and it’s my culture too considering I am hard of hearing. It’s tough as it is today in America trying to socialize with other people because not everyone know American…

Gallaudet University marked 150 years.

The first and well-known university for deaf and hard of hearing Gallaudet University marks 150 years and is celebrating for it ever since the day the 16th president for United States of America signed a bill titled 13th amendment to the constitution on April 8th, 1864 that the senate approved of to end the slavery and had the moment to sign a bill of interest to senate committee on the district of Columbia and educators in the nation’s capital. Which that authorized Columbia institution for the deaf and dumb and the blind to award degrees in the liberal arts and sciences. This is one of the reason I am very proud America that resided in United States of America for more than twenty-seven (27) years and that the bill is very important to deaf and hard of hearing especially giving them the same rights that hearing (people who can hear) have in United States of America. That same bill that happens to be America with Disabilities Act (ADA) that’s being used today that every deaf and hard of hearing use as their right. If it weren’t for Lincoln Abraham then it’s very possible that we may not have the bill that deaf and hard of hearing rely on for our rights today which is ADA, that is our rights to…

Feds wants eliminate deaf/hard of hearing housing.

I stumbled upon a article that wrote by Fox News that upsets me more than anything. The title of the article says “Feds try to eliminate housing for the deaf”. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) who granted to pay 2.6 million in funds to build a complex named Apache ASL Trails that has 75 units for deaf and hard of hearing to live in back in 2005 but now they changed their mind and are wanting to force the deaf and hard of hearing residents to move out and be homeless. Apache ASL Trails is located in Arizona, the senate of R-Ariz are fighting to put a stop in HUD to force the deaf and hard of hearing residents to move out and make them homeless, but HUD are quite powerful especially their lawyers and are willing to be inhumanity because all they care about is for themselves and not anyone who residents in Arizona especially the deaf and hard of hearing. Over five hundred thousands of dollars from state taxpayers and the apartment’s developer has put in to fight HUD, and National Association for the deaf (NAD) has jumped in the action to fight HUD and bought in more lawyers, several people are fighting against HUD to try to put a stop for them from forcing about…

Congressman hires deaf interns!

There is deaf news where they give the news all around in the world for only deaf and hard of hearing to watch the video about the news they have up to date or read the update news they have. Today one of the news on deaf news has the title that stated “Congressman hires deaf interns” and that caught my attention because my belief is that all deaf or hard of hearing are equal to hearing people but sadly, often they are not recognized as much as the hearing people are in America especially when it come to important things such as career, politics and among others. That is what makes me ill is that often a lot of people who think that deaf or hard of hearing people cannot do what the hearing people can do, that has been a heated debate going on for several decades. Same way as men vs women for driving, comparing their skills and such. Same concept as deaf/hard of hearing vs hearing which is quite unfair as it should be equally because only difference between deaf and hard of hearing vs hearing is that deaf and hard of hearing cannot hear, that is it as it does not change how their brain works because they do have same brain as the hearing…

Deaf Holocaust in Germany

I have come across a video on YouTube that are quite interesting about the deaf holocaust in Germany along with Nazis in world war two (WWII) and decided that I should embed a video in this post so that every one of you can watch the history about the deaf holocaust and the nazi in Germany at the dark time, it has subtitle/closed captions for every one of you to get the idea what the narrator are saying in the video and as well for deaf or hard of hearing people to understand what the narrator are saying in sign language who signs in Germany Sign Language (GSL) which is quite interesting, it is quite long video so be sure to grab some popcorn and a cup of coffee or soda and pull the chair in and sit and play the video to watch or if you have device or TV that has internet app on TV, then press watch later button and then go to YouTube app on your device on the TV then you will be able to watch from there instead of watching it on the computer. Hope you enjoy the video and if you are interested in to get know more about it then do some search and you will get numerous researches to learn about…

Learn Sign Language on your IPhone!

I have been browsing through several apps on ITunes lately to add apps to my Iphone or Ipad and I came across to one awesome app called “Marlee Signs” that you download for your Iphone or Ipad and it’s absolutely free! It has actress from “Children of a Lesser God” Marlee Matlin herself teaching you some sign languages, I am sure that many of you know who she is as she’s famously known as deaf actress in a movie title “Children of a Lesser God”. I downloaded the app and tested it myself and it is indeed awesome and that it is accurate because some of you may not know that I am hard of hearing so therefore I know sign languages in order to communicate if it is needed. A lot of people has been asking me for some lessons on some sign languages and obviously my often answer was that they can easily learn sign languages on the internet especially on search engine such as Google. Until I discovered that anyone who wish to learn sign languages can finally to do so with their own Iphone and as well their Ipad and I am sure that it will also on Ipod and other Apple products however I have only tested it on Iphone and Ipad which I can…
