For many months, I have been using my iPhone as an alarm, relying on its vibration, or haptic feedback, to wake me up as a Deaf person. Not only did I have my phone to vibrate, but I also always had my phone’s sound on the highest setting possible. Using a phone as an alarm clock is acceptable. I am sure many people now rely on their phones for this purpose, rather than having a traditional alarm clock. However, these devices aren’t always effective for heavy sleepers. Speaking of heavy sleepers, I am one of them, combined with being Deaf, so there were the times that it failed to wake me up, and I always had the phone laid beside me on the bed, especially that the phone was either on my arm or my shoulder because as I said I am Deaf so to wake me up is feeling the vibration from my phone. Those times when it failed to wake me up were building my frustration up because I am not a fan of sleeping in for more than four hours. For many years, my bones have, for some reason, not been able to tolerate sleeping or lying down for too long. Ironically, it is said that as you get older, you want to sleep longer, but for me, it’s the opposite – the older I get, the shorter my sleep time. As I mentioned earlier, my phone’s alarm is hit or miss for me, and the misses were too frequent for my liking. I needed an alternative, hoping it would be more reliable than using my phone as an alarm clock. That’s why I decided to look for a real alarm clock. Besides that, I’d like to keep my phone charged, but when I had it with me as an alarm clock, it was never on a charge. Plus, it’s never a good idea to leave a phone charging on your bed, as it can cause a fire due to the heat generated while charging. So, when I go shopping for a real alarm clock, I have to do some research to make sure that it’s the alarm clock that I need, such as it must have the strongest vibration, the loudest sound, and be portable. It took me a few days to decide which one of the few others I should get, and ultimately, I went for the Reacher Super Loud Alarm Clock.
To be specific, the one I went for was the Reacher Super Loud Alarm Clock under the model GX-GY. They have two different colors, gray and black. I chose the gray one because, when I looked at the black one, it mentioned a newer version, which turned out to be the gray one. Now that I have it and use it as my primary alarm clock every bedtime, I’m writing a review of it.
The Reacher Super Loud Alarm Clock model GX-GY is a gray, portable, and rechargeable wireless alarm clock. The rechargeable 1500mAh battery’s runtime can last up to 29 hours before it needs to be recharged. To recharge the alarm clock, it must be placed on a charging base and connected to two magnetic pins. The charging base uses a 5V1A power supply, which is a DC power supply with a voltage of 5 volts. It is a 5V input. The alarm clock features a fully integrated bed shaker, and it has five intensity levels of vibrations. There are 30 volume levels, the loudest volume reaches 104 decibels, and it comes with five ringtones (bell, birds, thunderstorms, flute, and beeping), three wake-up modes (alarm with ringtones, bed shaker, or both). The alarm clock is digital, and it has brightness-adjusting levels with an option for auto-dimming. The alarm clock measures 4.3×4. 3×1.38, and is round-shaped. You can travel with the alarm clock. The alarm clock is made of fabric and drop-resistant silicone. The alarm clock is tailored for heavy sleepers, teenagers, and individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (the term “hearing impaired” is considered offensive). To place the bed shaker, it is recommended to put it in the center of a pillow with the clock facing down. The box includes four items: a vibrating alarm clock, a 5V1A power adapter, a magnetic charging base, and a cue card/user manual. There is a warranty for it up to 12 months/one year. Here are pictures of what it looks like from opening it to being in use.
I purchased the vibrating alarm clock on July 11th, 2025, about a month ago. I have been using it for a month and will share a link below if you’re interested in getting one. So, what do I think of it? Now, this wasn’t the first alarm clock I’ve used for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people, as I had a couple of others tailored for us before. Although I was a child when I had them, which was several decades ago, one of them was a white, large alarm clock with a strobing light and a corded bed shaker. When the alarm goes off, the strobe light flashes repeatedly, which is bright, and the bed shaker has a strong vibration. When I typed this about that old alarm clock I had, I decided to do a quick search to see if they still sell it, and sure enough, they still manufacture them. It’s called Sonic Alert SB1000SS; click this link to see it on Amazon. I had another alarm clock, also tailored for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, called the Sonic Bomb Dual Extra Loud Alarm Clock with Bed Shaker. You can click this link to see it on Amazon. It was also a weird alarm clock with a corded bed shaker. Now, back to the Reacher Super Loud Alarm Clock, I am glad I bought it. After trying it out on the second night, it woke me straight up! The bed shaker vibrations are intense, particularly at the highest setting. I had it set on the highest setting without realizing how strong the vibration is, as I didn’t test it before I set it up for that night, because I was somewhat in a hurry. I mentioned the second night because the first night was a failure for me. The alarm didn’t wake me up because it didn’t vibrate, despite being set, and it didn’t do anything. On that first night, when I finally woke up on my own, which felt like an eternity, I grabbed the alarm clock, wondering why it wasn’t working, and decided to put it back on charge. That second night, I decided to do a double check on the user’s manual, I couldn’t find what I was trying to look for, which was the setting for three modes, maybe I didn’t looked careful enough to find out how, and because where I was Deaf so I had to figure it out with my mother since she can hear so when I set the alarm then wait for it to go off. She told me that she could hear it. Still, it wasn’t vibrating for me, so I decided to try switching something. Then, I set the alarm again to test it. This time, my mother said there was still a sound. It finally vibrated for me, so I realized I had it set to sound only when I needed the bed shaker with the sound mode, and then all was good. So, that second night, it did what I wanted it to do for me, which was to vibrate while making a sound at the same time.
That second night, with the right setting, the bed shaker vibrated so intensely that I thought a train had gone by, given that trains pass by daily where I live. I then realized that it was the alarm clock going off, and I grabbed it to turn it off. Not only that, the sounds were heard by everyone else who was sleeping, and this house is pretty big. Right from that spot, I was satisfied with the alarm clock, and now that I know how to set it right, I use that alarm clock primarily every bedtime without fail. Not only was I satisfied with it, but I’m also glad it’s portable and comes with a rechargeable 1500 mAh battery, allowing me to place the alarm clock anywhere. Being a rechargeable alarm clock, it features a lithium-ion rechargeable battery instead of traditional AA or AAA batteries, which would need frequent replacement. Although rechargeable batteries are available, they tend to run out quickly due to the alarm clock’s high power consumption, especially for producing intense vibrations and loud sounds. So, all you need to do is charge it during the day, then take it out of the charging base to your bed for the night, and repeat this routine. This way, you will have a charged alarm clock. On both sides of the alarm clock, the fabric feels soft, while the center features silicone, which is similar to rubber. It’s very easy to set up the time and the alarm. It’s also got the snooze button if you need it. Setting up ringtones, volumes, and bed shaker intensity can be confusing. You’ll need to switch between options, the alarm modes, scroll up or down for volume adjustments, and press to change ringtones and vibration intensity. The user’s manual was also somewhat confusing, as it was unclear which settings to adjust to achieve the desired outcome. But once you have it figured out, you can know what to do. For my settings as a Deaf person, I have the vibration intensity at five, which is the highest setting. I’ve also scrolled the volume to the highest for the loudest sound and selected the beeping sound. Additionally, I’ve set it to auto-dimmable, which does a good job of sensing. If your surroundings are dark, they will brighten, and if you are in a bright environment, they will dim down but remain visible. The Reacher Super Loud Alarm Clock does what it advertises: it’s designed for heavy sleepers and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Would I recommend the Reacher Super Loud Alarm Clock model GX? If you are a heavy sleeper, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or need an alarm clock that gets the job done, the Reacher Super Loud Alarm Clock model GX is the way to go! It will effectively wake you up. Plus, I know many of us Deaf and Hard of Hearing people who have a corded alarm clock with a corded bed shaker, and it is bulky. So, they do get in the way sometimes, but this one is cordless and wireless, with a built-in bed shaker that eliminates the need for a corded one, which can sometimes disrupt our sleep. This alarm clock is great for traveling, being both portable and travel-ready. It only needs a cord to plug into the charging base for charging. You will not regret buying the Reacher Super Loud Alarm Clock model GX-GY. Click this link or the one below to purchase! If you do regret buying it, you can always have it returned for a refund. I am rating this Reacher Super Loud Alarm Clock model GX-GY a 3.9, which translates to very good/almost great (rating 4 would mean great). The only negative about this product is that the user’s manual can be confusing. Although 29 hours of runtime is sufficient for a night’s sleep, a longer runtime would be preferable. However, 29 hours is more than enough for a day’s sleep, and then recharge when you’re not in bed.
A loud alarm that will shook you!
