9-8-2020 Snippets

Hello everyone! I know I have not written a snippets article in a great while, and I would like to apologize for that. I have been swamped lately, especially with everything that has been going on this year, as this year of 2020 has been so awful to me, which I will share about that in one of the topics below. Here we are; I hope that all of you enjoy at least one subject in this snippets article, and as always, if you have any suggestions for a topic that you would like for me to talk about or share on, please feel free to contact me with a topic suggestion. I hope that all of you are doing great and as well enjoying whatever that we have left of the summer as we are approaching the fall quickly. While you all are enjoying what is left of summer, please do so safely, especially that we are still in the middle of the pandemic, and it does not look like it is going away or down enough to where it can be safe enough for us to be out doing things.

In case if you are new here, so you know, you can click the “Show Topics List” below here, which that will show you all of the topics for this snippets article that I have written so that you can decide to read any of them specifically or know which to skip the ones that you do not want to read. Or you can always keep the topics list below closed and read the entire snippets article, which means continuous reading for you without having to go back and forth to skip other topics that you may not want to read!

Social Media Consumes My Time

As a journalist, blogger, and reviewer for over 13 years now ever since I had launched JoshiesWorld back in the year 2007 on August 7th. Yes, that means JoshiesWorld has just turned thirteen years old about two weeks ago, and that is a long time! I have noticed that I would write a lot of articles, almost 4-5 articles a week, but when I started using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, or others, it drastically changes 4-5 articles a week to maybe one or two articles a month or three articles a month if I finally have the energy to do so. I notice that social media is pretty much becoming the center of everything; if you want to do some reviewing, then you can do that on Facebook or other reviewing sites such as Yelp or Google’s reviews system. If you wish to microblog about something, then there is Tumblr. If you’re going to deliver content such as news, videos, photos, or whatnot, then you can do that on Facebook, so I notice that social media have unintentionally diverted my productivity on JoshiesWorld to there. I think that is a bad thing because most of these social media does not provide the freedom, a way to monetize (I do know Facebook monetize, YouTube monetize, etc. but they don’t do too well) and allow me to have more controls especially making sure that I know what is going out there or what is coming in while I cannot do that on social media because they become the middle person doing that, so that takes away my freedom in seeing where it leads or what leads.

Thankfully, I am slowly getting back into the tempo by publishing more articles and reviews more often. I have been writing a lot of reviews left and right lately, but now I am working on getting my groove back in for the same with writing articles.

United States Postal Service Can Arrest!

Until a few days ago, not many people realize that the United States Postal Service, aka USPS, does have the authority to arrest and can do the arresting as if they are police officers. In a way that does make sense that they have the power to arrest is because they are a federal agency in which they are sworn federal law enforcement agents. Since the United States Postal Service can capture, they have a title that is called Postal Inspectors, which they have the power to serve warrants, subpoenas issued under the authority of the United States. They can arrest without warrants for postal-related offenses committed in their presence; they can arrest anybody without warrants for postal-related felonies cognizable under the laws of the United States. If they have reasonable grounds to believe that the person arrested has committed or is committing such a felony, carry firearms, and make seizures of property as provided by law. If federal, state, or local authorities ask for help, then the postal inspectors have the power to collaborate with them to arrest or to serve a warrant/subpoena. Sometimes even the United States Department of Justice or a United States Attorney can ask postal inspectors for some assistance, such as joining them to do what they are asked to do for them even if they are not postal-related.

It is interesting, only a few people that are aware of the power that the United States Postal Service has, especially as law enforcement, and many didn’t know about that as they thought they do what they are known for, which is to deliver some mail or package. Still, in reality, they can do more than just providing some mail or package.

Read more about their power and what they can do here: https://www.uspis.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/USPIS-FAQs.pdf

The reason why a lot of people are starting to be aware of what the United States Postal Service can do is that there was recent news about a former aide to the United States President Donald Trump, namely Steve Bannon, being arrested on one of the most luxury yachts using the donors’ funds that were supposed to be for the United States/Mexico wall border.

I am curious what you think about the United States Postal Service has the authority/power to serve a warrant, subpoena, and to arrest?! Leave a comment below.

Too Many Things Happened In 2020

There are so many bad things that have happened to me personally this year of 2020. It just kept on breaking my heart piece by piece, and it just continued. First, back in June, we lost our eldest baby, our dog Cassie who we have had for almost two decades, then we lost another baby of ours, which is also another dog named Miss Damien, just over a week ago in August due to severe problem with her liver, so we immediately went to the vet in Pikeville as we took her there two days earlier, but the vet called saying that they don’t think that she would make it and that they didn’t have the equipment they need to give her more blood, so they recommended that we take her to Lexington right away, so my mother went straight to the vet in Pikeville to pick Miss Damien then straight to another vet in Lexington for a specialist, but sadly Miss Damien passed away just five miles away from the vet in Lexington. On that same day, or was it the next morning, I think we got a call from my great-uncle’s family, which is my mother’s uncle, to say that my great-uncle Glenn Ball has passed away and now just a few days ago, we also have found out that one of my closest friend who I was with for most of my life Jimmy Ray has passed away due to a heart attack. So, I have lost four things that I dearly loved and was so close with such a short time this year in 2020, so this year it has been a very emotional time for me, although besides that, I am doing good. I hope that this is just the end because after losing our eldest dog, Cassie, it shattered my heart all over. Still, suddenly it didn’t stop there as we started immediately losing others such as my dog Miss Damien who I named after my childhood dog Damien as Damien was the most beloved dog in my life that passed away a long while ago but then one of our dog Bella who also passed away a few years ago got pregnant and I made a deal with my mother saying that if Bella birthed the first pup that has black hair that I am taking it to keep and to our surprise the first pup that Bella birthed along with two more others was one with black hair, so I made it mine. Named the dog Damien JR at first in honor of my childhood dog Damien but after realizing that the dog is female. Damien JR didn’t sound right for a girl, but at the same time, I still want to honor Damien’s name somehow, so I decided that she is Miss Damien, which was a perfect name for her. Losing Miss Damien after losing our eldest one, Cassie, my heart was already shattered, so losing Miss Damien pretty much crushes all of the broken pieces in my heart even further, then after hearing that we have lost a family member of ours which was my great-uncle Glenn Ball, so that hurt me a lot even more and then a few days ago getting the news that someone who I pretty much raised who was a friend of mine has passed away. The reason why I said I pretty much raised him it’s because Jimmy Ray pretty much moved in with us at the age of 13 (I was 12 as he’s a year older); he lost his mother and then moved with his aunt, but he wasn’t happy, so he pretty much lives here for many years but only goes over to his aunt once in a great while to have his clothes washed or to do some errands, but for the most of the time he’s always here sleeping here every night since he was 13 until I believe maybe 24 or 25 when he found someone else, but that didn’t work so he stayed here a little bit longer then he finally found the right girl who he created a beautiful family of two children with (one girl one boy). When I watch him growing, he was a troublemaker child, even though he is a year older than me. Still, I looked after him as if I was the older brother one, so I had the privilege to watch him grow from a troublemaker child to create a beautiful family of his own that he now calls his own new home as before that I was pretty much all he had. That makes me even sadder, as I lost a lot this year, and I pray that it stops here. I am doing good myself, though, because I know that one day I will get to see them once again!

Pictures to honor all of these that have left us this earth. Rest in peace: Cassie, Miss Damien, Glenn Ball, and Jimmy Dale Ray.

September Is Deaf Awareness Month!

We must continue to bring awareness about the deaf and hard of hearing community to the people; otherwise, we will continue allowing everyone else to keep on being ignorant about us. What not many people not aware of is that there is more than us just being deaf or hard of hearing, as, in the deaf community, there are cultures and languages that are so rich. The culture in the deaf community is through many things, such as arts, institutions, society, and many traditions that the deaf community has. If you have don’t have anything to do for September, I suggest that you add it on your list to do some research about the deaf community and be educated about what the deaf community is all about since September is all about bringing the awareness about the deaf people or its community! I have written a few on Deaf topics such as the issues and whatnot, so if you would like to read them, here are a few articles that I have written.

International Deaf Awareness Month
We Are Deaf And Not Dumb!
Don’t Tell Deaf People To Read Lips!
Alexander Graham Bell: Public Enemy Of The Deaf
Deaf Cultural Genocide
News Outlet Improperly Labeling Deaf
Deaf Awareness Month September
We Want To Be Deaf And Don’t Fix Us

Or others that I did not write.

Deaf Culture – Wikipedia
Community and Culture FAQ – National Association of the Deaf
And for the rest, you can use Google or Bing to discover other resources by typing such words like “Deaf Culture,” “Deaf Community,” and others.

There are three great books that you can read about the Deaf community and as well the culture which I recommend. There are a few more others out there, but these are the three that I recommend.

Understanding Deaf Culture: In Search of Deafhood by Paddy Ladd
The Deaf Community In America: History in the Making by Melvia M. Nomeland and Ronald E. Nomeland; Foreword by Trudy Suggs.

My DNA Result Has Arrived, and I Am…

Over a month ago, I decided to order an Ancestry DNA test kit from 23andMe, which is one of two leading ancestry DNA companies along with other companies, AncestryDNA. I wanted to find out what is my ethnicity, my DNA, and several past generations of mine originated from. They would take about a month or close to two months before anyone can get the result about their ancestry, and mine has just arrived a few nights ago as I was alerted via my e-mail saying that my DNA result was ready.

What am I and where both of my family lines originated? Here it is:

Click the first picture and then slide or click the arrow on the right side to look in order. When finished, click the X button top right corner or click the black background. If you use a keyboard, you can press the left and right arrows on your keyboard to move to the next or previous picture.

23andMe is so useful; it also gave me over 1,400 relatives found that I am not aware of and even an automatic family tree with manual options where I can fill out some missing parts such as my parents, grandparents, etc. to strengthen the connection that they found my other relatives. I may do a review on this sometime soon, but if you would like to get one for you to find out your ancestry, then click here to get one from Amazon.

Seek The World’s Owner Calvin Young Arrested

Yes, I am aware that the owner of Seek the World, Calvin Young, has been arrested but to be honest with you that I don’t keep a track with him or his brand as I have something more important to focus on, especially my brand. But in case if some of you are not aware, in summary, is that there was a warrant issued for Calvin Young that was filed on August 24th. Calvin Young of the Seek of World has been arrested in Austin, TX, on September 2nd and has been booked in jail being charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member. Right now, Calvin Young himself is out of jail as he has made bail on bond for $2,500 and is now waiting for court. I also have noticed a lot that there are increasing numbers of Deaf people who own a business that lives in Austin, TX are up to no good.

Nonetheless, all I can say is – Nothing. Because assault causing bodily injury to a family member isn’t cool at all and childish. Still, I am not sure if this was in defense or he did it with intention, so I think we should wait at least until his court or until Calvin Young himself comes forward to share to find out what happened as the court mostly will share all details that you would like to know. I do have one thing to say, and that is, I genuinely hope that the victim is not a female.

Summer Is Nearing The End!

Finally! I am not a fan of this summer for many reasons, but with these reasons for a lot of happenings aside, I am not a fan of the temperature that the summer brings either! For many decades I have never been a fan of the summer for one main reason, that is because of the hot temperature and the heat that the summer brings. Even during wintertime, I would be seen wearing a tank top or at least used to be, but as I get older, I started switching between tank tops and short-sleeves shirts but still wear the shorts. Your summer is pretty much my winter. I was born as a winter child, although late winter, at that still winter nonetheless as I was born in early March, and I think it makes sense that winter is my favorite season. I love the cold temperature, and I always feel happy whenever I see snow. It is who I am, I am a winter person, and that is why I cannot wait until the summer is over because I know it means that the winter is coming, although I will have to deal with the fall season first, which is my second dislike season. I am for winter and spring because, in spring, there is still cold temperature nights!

Even though I hope that I would see a lot of snow over here in eastern Kentucky but I do predict that it is not going to happen because of climate change. We will see some snow but not the snow that we like; because of the climate change that we all are causing, it is going to be weird to turn the winter into summer in a few decades if the government is not going to do something about the climate change. No, the United States of America cannot do this alone, and it will take other countries to do their part as well. However, the United States of America is one of the biggest problems that cause climate change by polluting our sky with gas emission, coals, and others. China is also at the same fault. Talking about predicting that we no longer will see the beautiful snow that we used to see, especially in the 90s or earlier, in the 90s, we had some blizzards here, but we don’t have them anymore here, and that says a lot. Are you looking forward to fall and winter?! Leave a comment below to let me know what your favorite season is and why it is your favorite season?!

Misconception About Black Lives Matter

For some reason, a lot of people, especially white people who seem to like their whiteness too much and is white fragile, continue shouting “All Lives Matter” or some people who which I have seen post so many of videos that would show a lot of white people beating down BIPOC (Black,  Indigenous, People of Colors) or a lot of videos that show many of BIPOC people beat white people or others violently as their attempt to say that the BIPOC people are violent– never can get it. There are a lot of misconceptions about black lives matter. They assumed that it is what they label themselves, a name for their group, and whatnot when it is not that at all as it is the name of a MOVEMENT, which I made sure that I typed that in the capital in the hope that this can finally get to their brain. I am a white person myself, I do not speak for them as they can more than speak for themselves, and I am merely writing this as an observer or more so a person who is sick of seeing people that would do everything to distort what Black Lives Matter is all about. Black Lives Matter is not the name of a group; they have nothing to do with “ANTIFA,” it is not a label for themselves, and it is only the name of the movement. Saying “All Lives Matter,” you selfishly take away their platform and distort the message of their movement when it does not warrant the white people to do so.

In contrast, it does warrant the BIPOC community to do so as they are the ones who have been going through a lot for centuries with police brutality, injustice, and unfairness. When KKK or white supremacists have some movements, you pretend that it’s nothing wrong there, that they are just merely exercising their freedom in America, and then when it’s BIPOC people start movements, you quickly say that it is not ok? Not only that, but I have also seen some of you even to go as far as to call them domestic terrorist group, which that disgusts me to no end to know that you have no intelligence even to understand that it is not a group, that it is a movement with agendas which is to stop the police brutality, the inequality justice, and whatnot. All of you these who say such thing or behave a such as that you sicken me!

Trump Calling U.S.A Soldiers Losers And Suckers

I know that we have seen the news over this subject all over on the internet, but my response to that is what?! How can some of you be surprised, as if that news just came out a few days ago when the news is old news as Trump was calling the United States of America soldiers losers and suckers during his presidential campaign in 2015! Where have you been hiding, under a rock, I am assuming?! During his 2016 presidential campaign, he often would point out that the United States of America are losers and suckers. Also, anyone who went on to fight in Vietnam is a loser and a sucker. Not only that, he even said that prisoners of wars, aka POWS, are considered losers in his view and called out John McCain being one of the losers as Arizona’s former senator who was a prisoner in Hanoi, Vietnam, when he flew his 23rd bombing mission over North Vietnam. A missile shot down his plane (A-4E Skyhawk).

So, do we want a person who calls our soldiers losers and suckers to be the president of our country while commanding the same military that the president calls losers and suckers?! I don’t think so, and I think we need someone who would be proud of our soldiers, whether they are taken prisoners or not. How can anyone fight for a country that has a president who belittles them! It is heartbreaking to see our country’s president mistreating our soldiers. Still, you republicans or who support Trump should not be surprised because you all know that he has been calling them these since day one, even before he becomes the president of the United States, especially as he said so during his campaign.

Joshie’s Portfolio?

There were a couple of you out of nowhere sent me an e-mail asking me if I have a portfolio that I could showcase or share with some of you. I decided that instead of responding to the future question, of course, I still will answer e-mail but just in case to save someone’s time if they look for it through here that I do have a portfolio that is in public. You can easily find my portfolio and as well my online biography, my website, my business information, and whatnot by going to JoshuaBSullivan.com.

The Anti-Mask

I am noticing that there is somewhat a rather large group, at least on the world’s scale oppose the idea of being mandated to wear masks to protect themselves and others from being exposed to COVID-19 as we are still in a nonstop pandemic crisis. There are a few of people on my Facebook friends list who would complain about having to wear the mask when they are in public, such as business or a hospital, for whatever reason, is that it is because they say it makes them feel as if they are being suffocated and that their so-called freedom is being infringed. What many not realize that there are many different masks that they can opt to wear, there are various materials for the mask to get and as well as different masks that have multiple protections. As for infringing their freedom is by far from being accurate, especially if they are being mandated to do so because we do not own these stores or hospitals. So they have every right to require and is no different than respecting a person’s wish by taking their shoes off when entering their own home. Now, onto my personal opinion, I think that whoever complains about being mandated to wear the mask is a bit selfish because if they have done their research in how high is the percent in the deaths and the hospitalization that have pre-existing conditions. Reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States that the percent of people with the underlying condition(s) hospitalized related to COVID-19 are at 73%. The percent of deaths associated with COVID-19 in the United States reported by CDC that was contributed to health conditions are sounding 94%!

Every family or friend has to have at least someone that has a pre-existing condition(s) so by refusing to wear the mask or think that being mandated to wear the mask is infringing their freedom means that they don’t care about them being exposed to COVID-19. If being exposed, then they would join this 73% of people with health conditions being hospitalized or died with this 97% of people who passed away after being exposed to COVID-19 contributed by their health conditions. Their health conditions are what put them in danger of being exposed to COVID-19. Anyone who is against wearing the mask should rethink that because there has to be at least one member in their family or a friend who has one or more health conditions knowing that if they are exposed to COVID-19 that their life would be in gravely danger than anyone healthy. Plus, there are good numbers of people who have been exposed to COVID-19 but never showed any symptoms and get on with their life, so that is why they must wear the mask so that they would not put anyone else who has a health condition(s) in gravely danger. It is all about doing the good deed. I don’t think that anyone who is at least a human being would not want to be the one who causes that person’s death for being careless by not wearing a mask while not realizing that there is a possibility that the person has a COVID-19 that ends up transmitting to that person with a health condition(s).

https://www.sciencealert.com/more-than-70-of-americans-hospitalised-with-covid-19-had-at-least-1-underlying-health-condition-the-cdc-says
https://www.wtvm.com/2020/08/31/cdc-covid-deaths-had-underlying-health-conditions/

So, I ask you who are against the mask; please rethink about that. Do the right thing, at least for that member(s) in your family or a friend of yours, if not for any other strangers. I am one among the people who have more than one underlying health condition, so if I were to be exposed to COVID-19 that there would be a high chance that I would have to fight with everything I have to stay alive because of a careless act by someone who exposed me to COVID-19. If just everyone us wear masks and follow through making sure we wear the mask every where we go or stay home fully for at least 14 days or so then we would drastically reduce the numbers here. But it isn’t because there are some who refuse to wear mask or stay home straight for 14 days so pretty much they are doing harm than good not only to the people but to drag the economy in.

Here are a few options for the masks that you can wear without feeling suffocated. These three will help you better than a cloth or cotton mask as these three are breathable masks as they also can be used while in sport.

Movies Or Shows That I Am Looking Forward To!

Due to COVID-19, there are a lot of movies and television shows that have been delayed. Some even moved into the next year of 2021 instead of being released this year in 2020, which is disappointing for many of us movies or television fans. Are there any movies or television shows that you are looking forward to?!
