A 29-year-old Deaf person named Cody Wayne Downey of Russell Springs, from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, was shot dead by the police in Danville, Kentucky, about a couple of weeks ago, on January 11th, 2026, at Center Estates Apartments, where he resided. According to the Danville police, Danville dispatch received a 911 emergency call around 9:30 PM on January 11th, and the caller reported that there was a man who was attempting to commit suicide with a knife at Center Estates Apartments. According to the caller who made the 911 call to the Danville dispatch, the man was claiming to be harming himself, sending some pictures of his injuries to that caller through social media. The news is saying that the officers in Danville, Ky, went to his apartment for a welfare/safety check, and the police breached his apartment’s door, stating that the reason for doing so was to provide aid. The police say they have made contact with Cody Downey from outside of his apartment, and repeatedly commanded Cody Downey to drop the knife. The police said that Cody Downey came out of his apartment with a knife, and running toward Danville officers, he knocked one of them to the ground. For the past few days, after discovering what happened on that tragic day, I have been thinking over and over about what to say or how to express myself. But I have been unable to; I could not find the words because I have been left speechless or signless. Should I say something or express something about what had happened? You would think that law enforcement is hard on the colored people of color, abuses their power against them, and commits police brutality against them, but what many people do not realize is that they are not the only ones. Law Enforcement gives Deaf and Hard of Hearing people a very hard time, as there are several stories about their experiences when they had a confrontation with the police. One of several experiences, there was a Deaf woman who called police for immediate help because her boyfriend or husband was beating her, so once the police arrived at their residence. The Deaf woman was approached by the police, who were supposed to explain the situation about her husband or her boyfriend beating her to a pulp. Still, instead the police never took the time to hear her explanation, so they tasered her, then body slams her to the ground with their knees on the back of her body, and cuffed her, then booked her to jail while the husband or boyfriend who can hear was scoot-free. I would like to make a quick article on here to say that I pray for every one of you who has been stabbed have speedy recovery and get better. This morning I was reading some news and came across an article on CNN about a suspect stabbing other students with knives, it’s unbelievable what some of the people are becoming today especially ever since Sandy’s Hook school shooting. Starting from Sandy’s Hook school it has increase in violence in schools all over in America which is quite saddening and I do hope that this problem to be solved soon as possible especially if installing some kind of devices and hiring securities to make sure everyone’s safety when attending to their school. I have been reading news over online and watching videos regarding guns and how some of people that are wanting the guns control to be banned in due to recently shooting in Newtorn, Connecticut at elementary school (Sandy Hook). Firstly I would like to say that it is quite saddening and very sickening of this murderer that has murdered these innocent little angels especially that it’s right in the corner of Christmas and all of these little children were looking very forward to opening their presents with their little cute fingers and hands, and smiling in front of their parents and family and now that because of this disturbingly sicko named Adam Lanza had to break into Sandy Hook elementary school and decided to spray bullets from his weapons – excuse me, his mothers!
