A 29-year-old Deaf person named Cody Wayne Downey of Russell Springs, from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, was shot dead by the police in Danville, Kentucky, about a couple of weeks ago, on January 11th, 2026, at Center Estates Apartments, where he resided. According to the Danville police, Danville dispatch received a 911 emergency call around 9:30 PM on January 11th, and the caller reported that there was a man who was attempting to commit suicide with a knife at Center Estates Apartments. According to the caller who made the 911 call to the Danville dispatch, the man was claiming to be harming himself, sending some pictures of his injuries to that caller through social media. The news is saying that the officers in Danville, Ky, went to his apartment for a welfare/safety check, and the police breached his apartment’s door, stating that the reason for doing so was to provide aid. The police say they have made contact with Cody Downey from outside of his apartment, and repeatedly commanded Cody Downey to drop the knife. The police said that Cody Downey came out of his apartment with a knife, and running toward Danville officers, he knocked one of them to the ground. I would like to remind many of you with a disclaimer for this that this is my view, my thought and my perception of what I see out of the people’s perception on the Deaf people because every Deaf and Hard of Hearing have different experiences, therefore, they can share what it is to be under the microscope of the people who we labeled “hearies”. You would think that law enforcement is hard on the colored people of color, abuses their power against them, and commits police brutality against them, but what many people do not realize is that they are not the only ones. Law Enforcement gives Deaf and Hard of Hearing people a very hard time, as there are several stories about their experiences when they had a confrontation with the police. One of several experiences, there was a Deaf woman who called police for immediate help because her boyfriend or husband was beating her, so once the police arrived at their residence. The Deaf woman was approached by the police, who were supposed to explain the situation about her husband or her boyfriend beating her to a pulp. Still, instead the police never took the time to hear her explanation, so they tasered her, then body slams her to the ground with their knees on the back of her body, and cuffed her, then booked her to jail while the husband or boyfriend who can hear was scoot-free. Two days ago on Thursday my mother were swimming in her new swimming pool with a deck that my step father and his father built out back the house as the heatwaves hits here which the weather service have warned us that we would have a 5-days heatwaves. The weather service were somewhat correct as today is the third day of the 5-days heatwaves, two days ago were very hot but today is hotter as the weather said that it’s a record-setting in temperature today since the year of 2013 as the temperature for today is 97 so it’s bothersome hot but back to the subject, on Thursday two days ago when my mother were swimming and she immediately saw a militarized helicopters making a flyby over here as they did so multiply times so she texted me saying “action” with a picture of the militarized helicopter that she took with her iPhone 6S plus which I will post below. There were a discrimination in the Deaf community recently as one Deaf man named Johnathan Ramos who decided to record a video using his cell phone where he is being discriminated by one of its employee who were threatening to call the police on Johnathan Ramos if Johnathan would not leave the place that the employee calls his own land when it’s not even his own land in begin with as the place that Johnathan Ramos was discriminated is one of fast-food chain McDonald’s in Columbus, Nebraska and the McDonald’s refused to serve the Deaf man Johnathan Ramos because of his inability to hear. McDonald’s have violated Americans with Disabilities Act for unwilling to use the communication that were preferred by Johnathan Ramos as every Deaf individual have the right to use the communication that they prefers and most comfortable with. While potential Deaf customer await to order his foods with the attempts to communicate with the employees of McDonald’s but then they called the police, the police have come to the McDonald’s and cited Johnathan Ramos.
