A 29-year-old Deaf person named Cody Wayne Downey of Russell Springs, from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, was shot dead by the police in Danville, Kentucky, about a couple of weeks ago, on January 11th, 2026, at Center Estates Apartments, where he resided. According to the Danville police, Danville dispatch received a 911 emergency call around 9:30 PM on January 11th, and the caller reported that there was a man who was attempting to commit suicide with a knife at Center Estates Apartments. According to the caller who made the 911 call to the Danville dispatch, the man was claiming to be harming himself, sending some pictures of his injuries to that caller through social media. The news is saying that the officers in Danville, Ky, went to his apartment for a welfare/safety check, and the police breached his apartment’s door, stating that the reason for doing so was to provide aid. The police say they have made contact with Cody Downey from outside of his apartment, and repeatedly commanded Cody Downey to drop the knife. The police said that Cody Downey came out of his apartment with a knife, and running toward Danville officers, he knocked one of them to the ground. As some of you know, what happened on Wednesday, October 25th? For the past few days, after discovering what happened on that tragic day, I have been thinking over and over about what to say or how to express myself. But I have been unable to; I could not find the words because I have been left speechless or signless. Should I say something or express something about what had happened? Because if I did, it wouldn’t reverse what happened that day. What happened on that day was pure evil and hit too close to home. We are used to seeing something like that happen often everywhere. What happened on October 25th is common here in the United States, but October 25th was different. What I mean by common is that we are seeing a lot of mass shootings happening all over the United States, and that a lot of lives were taken away from them. But it was different on October 25th, 2023, because on that day, there was a mass shooting in Maine, and we thought to ourselves that it was another mass shooting that we were so used to hearing or seeing until we realized it wasn’t. This world is, undoubtedly a cruel world for all of us to be living in and who is to blame for making this world a cruel place to be in? There are a lot of the people who happens to be cruel, making the world cruel for us to live in and by making the world cruel for us is where some of the people gets to discriminate us regardless what we have. There are several people who happens to be “ism” is the ones who make the world cruel for us to live in, there are several words with “ism” such as sexism, audism, racism, elitism, ableism and hundreds more. What makes them that way? They are either influenced by their generations who happens to be one of these ism or being influenced by the peers that they were surrounded at their youth age and grew to be expert at being one or more of ism. It make you sometimes wondering what if there were no isms, wouldn’t it make any difference in how some of the people behave in this world and possibly make the world a better place for us without being feared of having to be victimized by one or more isms? You would think that law enforcement is hard on the colored people of color, abuses their power against them, and commits police brutality against them, but what many people do not realize is that they are not the only ones. Law Enforcement gives Deaf and Hard of Hearing people a very hard time, as there are several stories about their experiences when they had a confrontation with the police. One of several experiences, there was a Deaf woman who called police for immediate help because her boyfriend or husband was beating her, so once the police arrived at their residence. The Deaf woman was approached by the police, who were supposed to explain the situation about her husband or her boyfriend beating her to a pulp. Still, instead the police never took the time to hear her explanation, so they tasered her, then body slams her to the ground with their knees on the back of her body, and cuffed her, then booked her to jail while the husband or boyfriend who can hear was scoot-free. So imagine the horror as if you were in her shoes, the police never even questioned that man or even let the woman tell them what was going on or the reason for their call to the police station, so they immediately arrested a…
