Not too long ago, I saw some commercials for Reese’s Oreo cups and Oreo Reese’s cookies, since Reese’s is one of my favorite candies and Oreo is one of my favorite cookies, so I obviously had to find them and purchase them. Not too long ago, I found the Reese’s Oreo cup on Amazon and bought it. Before I purchased the Reese’s Oreo cup on Amazon, they were very hard to find. Then, out of nowhere, my mother was shopping at Dollar General and spotted some Reese’s Oreo cups. Hence, she purchased a couple of packs of them, even though I had already ordered 24-counts from Amazon, so I could try them before my Reese’s Oreo cups were delivered. I was worried that I might not like the Reese’s Oreo cups when I tried the ones my mother brought, and that I’d regret buying them on Amazon. Still, I didn’t regret purchasing the Reese’s Oreo cup, which was pretty good, and I have already written a review you can read here.
Now, it’s Oreo cookies with Reese’s turn for me to write a review article on it, so here we are. Before I start, in the Reese’s Oreo cup review I wrote, I stated that both the Reese’s Oreo cup and the Oreo Reese’s cookie are limited editions, which means they limited the number of them, and once they are sold out, then no one can find any of them again because they only limited the quantity of them. It was getting harder to find them because they were being sold quickly, and the Oreo Reese’s cookies were even harder to find. I was able to find plenty of Reese’s Oreo cups online, including on Amazon and on Hershey’s official online store, but I couldn’t find any Oreo Reese’s cups anywhere. Even their online stores, such as Hershey’s, Reese’s, and Oreo, were already sold out. I figured there would never be a chance for me to try them because I couldn’t find any in store or online, until one day, thanks to my mother again, she found one at Dollar General—and it was the last one! I finally got my hands on some Oreo Reese’s cookies for a review!
It seemed like many people liked the Oreo Reese’s cookies a lot more than the Reese’s Oreo cup, because the Oreo Reese’s cookie was nowhere to be found unless you happened to be in a store at the right time and saw some, as if it were a treasure. There are still plenty of Reese’s Oreo cups on Amazon and other online stores, but very few of the Oreo Reese’s cookies are in stock anywhere. Even if you find some online, they will only limit you to two packs. So, if you are thinking about trying them out, I wish you all the luck in the world to find some, both online and in-store. With that said, what do I think about the Oreo Reese’s cookie? Do they taste like what you’d imagine, like Oreo cookies, and Reese’s in the middle? My answer is, yes, and no. Now, if you are a fan of Oreo cookies, then you know that the Oreo cookie itself is already so sweet, and if you are a fan of Reese’s cups, then you know that the Reese’s delicious, somewhat dried peanut butter is sweet as well. Now, combining them, I unfortunately could barely taste the Reese’s because the Oreo’s cookie was so sweet, so it somewhat overpowered the Reese’s part. I admit it was a bit of a surprise, because I had already tried Oreo with peanut butter (not Reese’s peanut butter). Reese’s peanut butter is even better than other peanut butters, so I figured I’d be able to get a taste of that Reese’s delicious peanut butter rather than a different kind of regular peanut butter you can find in Oreo cookies anywhere. I mean, Oreo cookies with Reese’s peanut butter should be a great harmony, and then someone screws up some notes in the harmony so they don’t sound right—that’s the best explanation I could think of when I tried the Oreo Reese’s cookie. In other words, Oreo Reese’s cookie doesn’t taste like Oreo Reese’s cookie, or more so Oreo cookie with Reese’s. No, they don’t taste like the Oreo cookies with regular peanut butter you can buy anywhere, because they aren’t limited editions. I must confess that, in my opinion, when it comes to the best peanut butter, Reese’s is it, but the peanut butter in this Oreo Reese’s cookie does not taste like the Reese’s peanut butter that we all know.
If you think I am saying that the Oreo cookies with regular peanut butter taste better than the Oreo cookies with Reese’s peanut butter? Unfortunately, I am. It shouldn’t be, though, because the Reese’s peanut butter itself is one of the best peanut butters I have tried, and I couldn’t taste them in the Oreo cookies. Like I said, it is like a harmony went awry. Yes, as a reviewer, I did open the Oreo Reese’s cookie and scoop up all the Reese’s peanut butter to see if it would taste like Reese’s peanut butter, but I couldn’t. If you ask me what they could be improved, I’d say if they do want to make it at least a bit better than how they are, then I’d suggest doubling the Reese’s peanut butter sauce in the Oreo cookies, because then we just might be able to get a slight taste of the Reese’s peanut butter. Oreo cookies are already so sweet, so to balance them out, they would need to adjust the flavor balance. Put more Reese’s peanut butter in the Oreo cookie until they can at least get the hint or taste of both Oreo and Reese’s peanut butter without one overpowering the other. Being a huge fan of both Reese’s and Oreo, I find it disappointing that the regular Oreo with peanut butter could be tasted, while the Oreo with Reese’s peanut butter could hardly be tasted. That shouldn’t have happened, but it did.
So, for this review of the Oreo Reese’s cookie, I am rating it 2.8 out of 5, which means very ok (.2 away from good). The only reason I didn’t rate it any lower than that is that Oreo cookies are really good on their own, but not being able to really get much of the Reese’s peanut butter taste downgraded it (lowering the rate). Oddly, with the Reese’s Oreo cup one, you could easily taste both Reese’s and Oreo, which I rated very good in that review. I could taste the Reese’s and the Oreo, which balanced well without either overpowering the other. Still, this Oreo Reese’s cookie is unbalanced because the Oreo cookie overpowers the taste of the Reese’s peanut butter to the point where I could barely taste the Reese’s part in this Oreo Reese’s cookie. The bottom line: Would I recommend Oreo Reese’s cookies to anyone? That may depend on what you expect to get from them. If you are a big fan of Oreo cookies, I am sure you will like them. But if you are a big fan of Reese’s, I doubt you would like them, and it’d be better to go with Oreo with regular peanut butter cookies instead. But who knows, you might like them more than I did!
