I was in the market for a professional camera. I was shopping for a DSLR camera because it was beyond the time for me to upgrade, especially Nikon 5200. I was eyeing an expensive one but still affordable. First, I observed Nikon’s D850, a professional DSLR camera; as it was nearing Christmas, my mother decided to get me a camera for a present, and I was pretty much mindset on D850. After a while, I decided to do further research. I discovered that Nikon has something significantly better camera than D850, but it is a professional mirrorless instead of a DSLR camera. I found out that this camera is one of the top 10 lists of every reviewer when it comes to a camera overall (compact, action, DSLR, mirrorless, etc.). I decided to get that one instead of the D850 because it has better specifications than the D850 has. That is Nikon’s new Z 7ii; Nikon Z 7ii just came out not too long ago, which has a whopping 46MP, with more FPS and higher resolution for a video than D850 has. After finding out that Nikon Z 7ii offers more than what their D850 does and I decided that it will be the camera, I own so now I do.
Nikon Z 7ii has more features and better performance than their D850, which is the biggest reason that it won me over D850. While Nikon D850 seems to be a great camera by the specifications, the Nikon Z 7ii has about the same megapixels of 46 as the D850 has, but the Nikon Z 7ii has a few more FPS (10FPS) and can record video in UHD 4K 60p, which is a resolution that many other professional DSLR or mirrorless does not have including their D850. Not only that, Nikon Z 7ii now has new dual memory card slots (CFexpress, XQD, and UHS-II SD), which is a need, especially if I plan on exceeding the limit of one memory card; it also has 5-axis in-body vibration reduction, which is basically a stabilizer that would greatly reduce a shaky looking in a picture or a video. It now has dual EXPEED 6 image processors, great for a photographer obsessed with the detail depth of photographs or videos. It has a 493 point phase-detection AF system with the support of Eye-Detect AF, which is excellent for focus, especially in a low-light environment. It has both eye and face detection for both humans and animals in the wide-area AF mode for both photo and video. As for the battery, it can last for 410 shots by using EL-EL15c, which is the battery that comes with the camera, but it also can use EL-EL15B, which would reduce the b battery run to 330 shots and that is the cheaper one, but if you want to maximize the battery then the EL-EL15C is the one to use. What is even better is that Z 7ii now allows battery packs to recharge the camera while in use, and this will push the limits of how many shots it can take beyond. The bigger the battery pack, the more shots I can get out of Nikon Z 7ii.
I am aware that Nikon Z 7ii has serious competition, such as the Sony A7R iv, especially with 15 more megapixels. Still, in my opinion, that Nikon Z 7ii has an edge with 4K60p, which Sony A7r iv does not have, it does have 4K but only in 30p, plus Nikon Z 7ii has lower iso sensitivity than the Sony A7R iv has, and Nikon Z 7ii has larger pixels than Sony A7R iv does. Nikon is ahead in lenses, mainly thanks to their FTZ adapter, which allows us to use not only their Z lenses but also their hundreds of other lenses that are used with DSLR cameras, so, in comparison with lenses, Nikon got this in the bag over Sony by a mile. The only significant thing that Sony A7R iv has on Nikon Z 7ii is 15 more megapixels and 74 more focus points. But the numbers of lenses option, 4K60P video resolution, the ability to stack the focus (focus stacking), which Sony A7R iv does not have to make the depth of the image unbelievably amazing, a bit bigger pixel (more vs. bigger is the difference here) and the menu makes up for it because the menu Sony A7R iv is not great – it’s essential to have a good menu because it allows us to control how we want our image or video to look. On paper, I see that the Nikon Z 7ii is excellent as an all-around camera. Suppose anyone is looking for a professional mirrorless camera. In that case, this is a serious camera that should be considered, especially with hundreds of lenses available thanks to the FTZ adapter, which allows us to use pretty much of the lenses they have for DSLR to mirrorless cameras.
The only downside of this is that it does not have Flash Sync Port, which is useful for external flashlights. It can use speed flash using the hot shoe as we would with any other DSLR, but it does not have a port where we can hook into to sync several external flashes (like the lighting system). Fear not, though, as there is an adapter that you can get for that called Nikon AS-15 Sync Terminal Adapter or Pixel TF-322 Flash Hot Shoe Sync Adapter With Extra PC Sync Port (dedicated for Nikon), so that is a way to turn that downside to the upside!
After using it for a few days, the Nikon Z 7ii is one of the best all-around cameras. Nikon Z 7ii has a very high-quality image and a very high-quality video, which is a double win for the camera. With FTZ adapter, this just unlocked a few lenses to hundreds of lenses that produce beautiful and stunning images and videos! This camera is a professional DSLR-style mirrorless that can create stunning photos that will more than satisfy their clients, especially in portraits, boudoir, family pictures, group pictures, events, street photography, landscape, sport, and many others; it can handle all of the genres that there is. This camera would be the one that people use to take photographs professionally. It is also great for someone who wants to do so as a hobby but would get insanely great quality images and videos! I highly recommend Nikon Z 7ii; I am rating it as 4.7, which is very great.
Here’s an example of a video I took with Nikon Z 7ii, but I only took it in 1080HD 60p and still produce a high-quality video nonetheless.
I own a photography company; if you would like to see the rest of the photos that I have taken (all were taken with Nikon Z 7ii except two old ones), by going to this website: Joshie’s Photography.
