International Deaf Awareness Month

It is that time of year again, as we are at the beginning of September in 2019, and it is the month of International Deaf Awareness Month! Every year in September, the deaf and hard-of-hearing community comes together to celebrate. At the same time, we use this opportunity as a platform to raise awareness among the public, educating them about our community and sharing with them many aspects valued in the Deaf community, such as its culture and various sign languages. As for me here in United States, American Sign Language is not the only sign language because every country have their own country such as British Sign Language (BSL), Mexican Sign Language (LSM), Australia Sign Language (Auslan), French Sign Language (LSF), South African Sign Language (SASL), Korean Sign Language (KSL) and others so you get the idea that most of the countries have their own sign languages including the one here in the United States of America which is American Sign Language but the United States is not the only one county that use American Sign Language since Canada also use American Sign Language as one of their primary sign language along with another one which is Quebec Sign Language (LSQ). So, a lot of you who are hearing don’t know a lot about the Deaf community, and unfortunately,…

8-8-2019 Snippets

Time for other snippets where I will share some opinions, some sort of reviews, sharing some little things about some things and as well talking about some stuff but in short as possible instead of a full-blown article on one subject. In case if you are new and don’t know what snippets article are all about, it is more than one topic in an article instead of only one article on one subject so that it can give you the readers something more to read in one place rather than going one by one for each topic that may interest you. I know I haven’t written anything in a pretty long time ever since the last article came out about exposing a Deaf person’s social security which you can find it here, I have been so busy and when I finally had the time to write some I ends up having some problem with my health (nothing major), then recovered and then got so busy and repeats so I almost couldn’t find any time to write. Even right now I am having a little hard time dealing with my right rib for some reason but I thought that I better just start writing before I keep you all too long waiting for something new from me and I figured that…

Mix American Sign Language With Another?

I have been seeing a lot of Deaf people on social media starts to use a mix of American Sign Language and International Sign Language which can be very confusing for a lot of people including myself. What is more bothersome is that some copy the signs from International Sign Language with American Sign Language, telling people that they are American Sign Language when they aren’t even American Sign Language because they are signs from International Sign Language and uses them with American Sign Language can be very confusing for some. There are some people in a group calls “ASL That!” where they would learn some new signs for some words in American Sign Language obviously since the group are all about ASL aka American Sign Language and I have noticed that some Deaf people along with other people who know sign language (interpreters or codas) in the group or even outside the group would use the sign for people from International Sign Language thinking that it is the new sign or modernized sign for American Sign Language when they are not as they are being copied from International Sign Language. To my fear that I am starting to see a lot of people start using mixture of American Sign Language and International Sign Language for the norms which would…

Deaf Politician Has His Social Security Information Leaked

Some of you may know or may not know who Chris Haulmark is, before I go into it, I would like to share the introduction of who he is because this is important. Chris Haulmark was running for the district third (3rd) Congress in Kansas in the last election (2018 election) as a Democrat and then his advisors along with his citizens suggested that he run as a representative first so that he can get a taste of how the state government works so that way he can be better prepared to become a senator in the next election or two if his citizens think he did a good job as the house of representative in the state of Kansas. He took that advice, changed from third (3rd) district congressional to fifteen (15th) district representative for the state of Kansas and down the road in the election he won the Democratic nomination. Since then, he did a lot of doors knocking and making a vlog in American Sign Language (ASL) a day for 365 days campaigning on Chris Haulmark’s official campaign Facebook page. I even wrote a piece about him in one of my articles in the year 2017 when he was running for the Congress before making the decision to switch the position from Congress to a representative in…

I am hoping that the day is going well so far for you all, as that we are now in the spring season and that is my least favorite season of all the seasons for one or a couple of reasons. For past a month or a couple of months I have been trying to find or think of something to write about but I couldn’t come up with something or it is that I have been very busy lately. Well, it is more than I have been busy lately because ever since the beginning of last month March I have started doing something that I never have did and that is doing something that I have always wanted to but never did so because of a few reasons which I will be sharing in one of my snippets below but before I get into it I want to let all of you know this that I am grateful for your patience and support that you have given to JoshiesWorld or me. It means a lot to me, really and please continue doing so because you all are my motivation otherwise I really wouldn’t have a reason to continue or try to continue especially after doing something as this drastic that I did for the past month. 4-26-2019 Snippets Alright,…

Calling For Some Support

As of late, I have been paying a large number of dollars for a drastic improvement by a complete redesign back in January, a move from a small, unknown hosting provider to a large server company at the end of February, and then paid even more for speed and bandwidth to make it go from an average 2-3 seconds loading speed to 200-800ms. That’s not all; I also had to pay for a bunch of backend tools, such as a drastic security upgrade for all the websites, including JoshiesWorld.com, and cover all the essentials to ensure they run smoothly without any loss. This is the most drastic improvement I have made to JoshiesWorld.com. Just last week, I hired a professional designer to rework my logo, which is in the revision process and awaiting my approval, so it should be ready within a week if all goes well. My focus is on making it smoother, faster, safer, and easier to use. Next is marketing. I also have another project I am planning to work on. For the growth, it’s all you guys/ladies, and it wouldn’t be what it is without you guys/ladies. Ever since 2007, my passion has been sparked amid a time when the blogosphere was booming, and I jumped in. Ever since then, I have been passionate about journalism.…

A Boy Mocked ASL In School And Got Slammed!

There are only a few people, more so students at that time have witnessed this including my best friend Robert Wolfe and among few of others that were close to us know about what had happened in the lunch room in 2005 at Belfry High School. One day in early afternoon at Belfry High School, I was a senior student, one of two Deaf students who attended a public school but before that during my freshman year and sophomore year I was the only Deaf student that attended Belfry High School then when I go back to school after summer a Deaf girl named Cameo were transferred to Belfry High School as a sophomore from Ohio while I became a junior. As one of two Deaf student, it was a bit tough especially trying to mingle with the crowd, but I was fortunate to have a few friends who learned to be fluent in American Sign Language since a few of us became friends from the freshman year. Fast-forward to the senior year in 2005, in early afternoon at Belfry High School and it was time for a lunch but my math teacher allowed me to go to the lunch room a few minutes earlier before my lunch so that I could see my best friend because there were 3…
