We Are Deaf and Not Dumb

I am sure that some of you have heard of these words somewhere, whether it be auto-correction, on social media, in the news, in another country that doesn’t have much knowledge about the community as we do over here in the United States and as well some countries in Europe. By now if you haven’t realized what I am referring to by looking at the headline of this article then the words I am referring to is Deaf and Dumb or even Deaf and Mute. There was someone, who is Deaf found a words replacement suggestion in Nintendo’s store saying “Deaf and Dumb” and decided to share that on Reddit which I will provide a link to that Reddit at the end but he had shared his frustration or that he was surprised about the words replacement suggestion in Nintendo for “Deaf and Dumb” instead of Deaf in a Facebook group titled ASL That!. Asking the community about what he should respond or how to react to that, to the people’s comments in response to his concern about the “Deaf and Dumb” suggestion by Nintendo on Reddit but didn’t share the link to that part on Reddit which had me looking after the one that he was talking about so to get a better understanding of what people’s responding to…

Blogger’s Toolbox

For every blogger, whether it be news-based blogs, foods-based blogs, personal, technology, business and many more of other niches that they like writing for or about has some tools in their blogger toolbox. Maybe there are some bloggers that doesn’t or even know that they exist, so this is why I am going to share what is in the blogger’s toolbox that I have been using for over a decade and I have gone through a quite a lot of tools before I could choose which ones that I would call my favorite tools. Just because you have found this article, there is a possibility that you are looking for some tools to use for your blog and I am going to share just that so to help some of you out a bit. Top name bloggers or blogs such as CNN, ABC, BBC News and many more has their tools to use which is why you would sometimes see them having their devices whether it be a laptop, tablet or smartphone when they attend some events to take some notes or actually write them as they hear them. Remember that this is what in my toolbox, there are some more of other tools that I don’t use and many alternatives to what I use because it depends on how…

Black History Month 2019

As you all know, my skin is white so obviously I am white and I do acknowledge that I have that privilege whether I want it or not as it’s a given based on my ethnicity so the only as far I can do is to say that I do also recognize that the United States and many of other countries have a huge problem with racism even to this day. The black people suffers oppression everyday by the very same color that I have on my skin which is something that I am very ashamed of, even though I do everything I can do to support black people through activism and to pass their voices on around in hope that I can or at least hope that we can bring more awareness of what is going on in this world on racism issues. I have thought over and over about if I should or should not write a blog post about the black history month because it never will be my place to do so as I am white but at the same time I feel that I would also be bothered not to do so as I want to echo that for the ones who oppress black people are the lowest of the low in the eyes of…

Don’t Tell Deaf People To Read Lips

I think it’s getting to the point that we are fed up with the way of how people tell us to read their lips because they assume that every Deaf person can lipread when that isn’t even remotely true. I have seen it everywhere, this is common everywhere and it is more annoying than you think. It is acceptable if you would ask a Deaf or Hard of Hearing person if they can lipread but it is not acceptable and disrespectful to demand or to tell Deaf or Hard of Hearing people to lipread because not everyone can do so. Every Deaf and Hard of Hearing people have their preferred method of communications whether it be writing on a paper, demand an interpreter which by law they can require one, use a device such as a smartphone or a tablet to communicate with a hearing person or others that I have not thought of. I have seen some articles, videos and some people in the groups on Facebook or on social media share their experience where they were demanded to read lips but they cannot do so. Some would assume that anyone who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing have the ability to read the lips is a myth, it is tiresome for us come across the people who expect…
