I know that this article comes very late (about two months), but between having a hectic schedule, dealing with other businesses, and taking the time to think more about this issue, here I am. With that said, I am taking my time slowly and writing as my thoughts process, but it’s important that even though it is very late, this conversation should continue because it is problematic. It is a mess. Now that the NFL Super Bowl LVIII (Super Bowl 58) is over, the teams that played in it were the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. Kansas City Chiefs was seed three, and San Francisco 49ers was seed 1. This Super Bowl LVIII between the Chiefs and 49ers was perceived to be a rematch because both of them made it to the Super Bowl (Super Bowl LIV) back in 2020, facing each other, and this Super Bowl (Super Bowl LVIII), they faced each other again. In the Super Bowl LIV in 2020, the Kansas City Chiefs won with a score of 31-20 against the San Francisco 49ers, and now this year, Super Bowl LVIII Kansas City Chiefs won again against the San Francisco 49ers with a score of 25-22. The NFL should also read this to influence any broadcasters to agree to allow airtime for Deaf translators when they auction the license for a network to broadcast their future Superbowl. The evening on February 13 was an exciting time and day for the Americans because they were the host of the NFL’s Superbowl LVI (56) game for the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals. While it was indeed an exciting time for America and the world, it was utterly disappointing to a group that has over 430 million population worldwide – the Deaf community. It was utterly disappointing because NBC, NBC Sports, and Peacock under Comcast (parent company) did not take the opportunity to be inclusive by making sure that American Sign Language interpreters for National Anthem with Sandra Mae Frank and halftime with Warren “WaWa” Snipe and Sean Forbes to share the airtime with other singers. Every Superbowl would only air a very brief, a few seconds of a person translating the National Anthem in American Sign Language, and I think that is not fair. Lately we have seen a lot of the players in sports, especially the National Football League (NFL) and National Basketball Association decided to take a knee or locking arms with others. They were shown on television and as well in the media, there are two divided groups who support the decision of the players to take a knee or to lock arms and who are against the decision of the players taking a knee or lock arms with others. Players, coaches and even owners would decide either to take a knee or to lock arms with others while the National Anthem plays or sings by certain singers which they traditionally do so before the game starts. From the beginning, it was Colin Kaepernick as a quarterback at San Francisco 49ers last year where he decided to sit on the bench during the National Anthem in protest, as the media immediately noticed that and the next game Colin Kaepernick decided to take a knee instead of sitting on the bench like he did in the beginning but this time a few of his teammates joined the protest by taking a knee with Colin Kaepernick. Hey guys and women! How are all of you doing tonight? I hope that all of you are doing well, not only that I also hope that every one of you are keeping yourselves warm especially in the northern from east to west in the United States, especially in the eastern part since that is where I am at and it is a bit cold outside but at least it is doable if you are under the roof with something that keep the house heated like fireplace, portable electric heaters or the floor heater like my house. Here in the state where I live in, Kentucky in east on the borderline between Kentucky and West Virginia. I believe that this area has one of few most bipolar weathers that the mother nature just cannot decide which it is for us to be in, is it going to be warm or is it going to be cold or is it going to be warm and then pummel to blistering cold in matter of hours at sunset.
