I have been seeing a lot of Deaf people on social media starts to use a mix of American Sign Language and International Sign Language which can be very confusing for a lot of people including myself. What is more bothersome is that some copy the signs from International Sign Language with American Sign Language, telling people that they are American Sign Language when they aren’t even American Sign Language because they are signs from International Sign Language and uses them with American Sign Language can be very confusing for some. There are some people in a group calls “ASL That!” where they would learn some new signs for some words in American Sign Language obviously since the group are all about ASL aka American Sign Language and I have noticed that some Deaf people along with other people who know sign language (interpreters or codas) in the group or even outside the group would use the sign for people from International Sign Language thinking that it is the new sign or modernized sign for American Sign Language when they are not as they are being copied from International Sign Language. I am way behind on the hot topic and news on the Deaf community in general, mainly because I have been very busy lately and I could never find the time to write an article anywhere including my blog here but at least I will share my thought about this topic “Deaf Cultural Genocide” that was going around a few weeks ago. That would be better than not sharing any thoughts of mine on that topic so here I am to give a piece of my thought on the topic that was trending in the Deaf community, several weeks ago an associate professor at Gallaudet University wrote an article stating that if anyone who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing decides to participate in the medical or science research that supposedly cure deafness by receiving genetic therapy that they would allow a form of cultural genocide and it would be unethical of them to do so. I know that lately I have written a few articles that is Deaf and Hard of Hearing related but the reason is the Deaf Awareness Month were to due in the month September which is the current month now. The purpose for Deaf Awareness Month in September is to educate the people about the culture of Deaf and Hard of Hearing people, people who is audism are trying so hard to destroy for several decades now. Even though the Deaf community may be a little but it has a strength in holding their place when it comes to anyone that is trying all their best to make sure everybody is not aware that the Deaf and Hard of Hearing has their culture as they want to frame them with the label disability. FaceBook’s Video Comment.
I am the one, I am sure there are many of others too who pressed Mark Zuckerberg to add video function to the comment for the FaceBook because before I started pressing Mark Zuckerberg the CEO of FaceBook it only has pictures function where you could upload pictures in the comment but not video and I decided to send a message to CEO of FaceBook Mark Zuckerberg that I suggest for him to add the video option along with the picture in the comment function because I have seen where several Deaf or Hard of Hearing people have complained about not being able to respond to anyone’s post with a vlog in American Sign Language so I suggested that Mark Zuckerberg to add the video function to the comment section instead of just only the photo function in the comment. This was not only one message as I have sent Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg on regular basis to remind him that he need to add video function to the comment because so that it would allow us Deaf community to be able to respond our family members or our friends wall post with vlog and that we can respond using our language American Sign Language instead of text comment.
