How are you all?! I hope that everything is well with you all, I know I haven’t done snippets article in a very long time as I have been investing a lot of my time on other parts of JoshiesWorld and that is reviews as some of you already know by now that the reviews are a new addition for JoshiesWorld. Not only that, we all know that Christmas is coming faster than we feel or think and this means that we have been busy or that we are about to get busier than ever especially trying to shop for some of the things for our family and friends! Even I am already thinking about the things or what to do for Christmas I am forgetting that there is Halloween coming up in just a matter of few days and then there is thanksgiving on the way! There are so many things for me, trying to juggle a lot of things and hoping that one of them doesn’t slip through but even sometimes they are difficult I like doing them. Sometimes I fail, sometimes I succeed and that is just the norms for the people who try to accomplish something that they want to accomplish or reaching whatever the goals that they want to reach. Is there something that you…

Time for other snippets where I will share some opinions, some sort of reviews, sharing some little things about some things and as well talking about some stuff but in short as possible instead of a full-blown article on one subject. In case if you are new and don’t know what snippets article are all about, it is more than one topic in an article instead of only one article on one subject so that it can give you the readers something more to read in one place rather than going one by one for each topic that may interest you. I know I haven’t written anything in a pretty long time ever since the last article came out about exposing a Deaf person’s social security which you can find it here, I have been so busy and when I finally had the time to write some I ends up having some problem with my health (nothing major), then recovered and then got so busy and repeats so I almost couldn’t find any time to write. Even right now I am having a little hard time dealing with my right rib for some reason but I thought that I better just start writing before I keep you all too long waiting for something new from me and I figured that…

Mix American Sign Language With Another?

I have been seeing a lot of Deaf people on social media starts to use a mix of American Sign Language and International Sign Language which can be very confusing for a lot of people including myself. What is more bothersome is that some copy the signs from International Sign Language with American Sign Language, telling people that they are American Sign Language when they aren’t even American Sign Language because they are signs from International Sign Language and uses them with American Sign Language can be very confusing for some. There are some people in a group calls “ASL That!” where they would learn some new signs for some words in American Sign Language obviously since the group are all about ASL aka American Sign Language and I have noticed that some Deaf people along with other people who know sign language (interpreters or codas) in the group or even outside the group would use the sign for people from International Sign Language thinking that it is the new sign or modernized sign for American Sign Language when they are not as they are being copied from International Sign Language. To my fear that I am starting to see a lot of people start using mixture of American Sign Language and International Sign Language for the norms which would…

A Boy Mocked ASL In School And Got Slammed!

There are only a few people, more so students at that time have witnessed this including my best friend Robert Wolfe and among few of others that were close to us know about what had happened in the lunch room in 2005 at Belfry High School. One day in early afternoon at Belfry High School, I was a senior student, one of two Deaf students who attended a public school but before that during my freshman year and sophomore year I was the only Deaf student that attended Belfry High School then when I go back to school after summer a Deaf girl named Cameo were transferred to Belfry High School as a sophomore from Ohio while I became a junior. As one of two Deaf student, it was a bit tough especially trying to mingle with the crowd, but I was fortunate to have a few friends who learned to be fluent in American Sign Language since a few of us became friends from the freshman year. Fast-forward to the senior year in 2005, in early afternoon at Belfry High School and it was time for a lunch but my math teacher allowed me to go to the lunch room a few minutes earlier before my lunch so that I could see my best friend because there were 3…

Nyle DiMarco’s Profanity in American Sign Language

Two days ago, there was a video that caught my attention through the news feed on Facebook, in that video it was an American Sign Language lesson in profanity by Nyle DiMarco and for past these two days since that video caught my attention I have kept my eyes on the commentary where the Deaf community would share their opinion on the video of Nyle DiMarco’s American Sign Language lesson in profanity. While there are a lot of people who have shared their views about it and I have not. I never left a comment, tweet or wrote a wall post on Facebook because at that time I had to think hard because I admit that at that time I was baffled – too baffled to think of what to say I guess. So, now that two days have passed or three, I decided that I should just go ahead and share my opinion on what Nyle DiMarco did in the video where he teach profanity using our native language which is American Sign Language. Please note that I am not speaking for everybody, this is only based on my opinion and my thought so if you are curious what are their thoughts you are more than welcome to ask them or to look for that video on Facebook. It…

Alexander Graham Bell: Public Enemy of the Deaf

Some of you may not know this especially if you aren’t associated with the Deaf community and if you are indeed associated with the Deaf community or you are Deaf/Hard of Hearing yourself then there is a good possibility that you know this. If you aren’t associated with the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community or you are one of them then you already have a question in your mind wondering what or who am I referring to the public enemy of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community but if you are associated with the community or you are one among of us as I am Deaf myself then you should by now already know that I am referring to Alexander Graham Bell being the public enemy of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community. Now that I have mentioned that the name is Alexander Graham Bell, those who aren’t associated with or is Deaf/Hard of Hearing immediately recalls that Alexander Graham Bell is known for being a pioneer or an inventor as he invented landline telephone and some of you already know that he has been suspected of stealing the blueprint from Elisha Gray who came up with the mechanics in blueprint to build the first landline telephone that everybody today uses at home using dial-up connection. That wasn’t the only thing that Alexander…

Opinion on Anne E. Geers’s Research

Okay, where do I start here? Please note that this is my opinion and over 70 million people in the Deaf community are welcome to share their opinion on this subject as well. I strongly believe that the research done by Anne E. Geers may be biased or improperly researched. In her article, it stated that she studied a different three groups where one of them would have newborn to learn sign language early on, one with cochlear implantation while learning spoken language such as English and one with cochlear implantation learning sign language. In her research, she stated that the group where the newborn who had cochlear implanted and learnt spoken language could speak more clear and better reading than the other two groups. I must ask, did Anna E. Geers herself handpicked the sign language teacher to teach the child sign language? And what exactly did she mean “sign language”? Doesn’t she realize that all other sign language modes besides American Sign Language has proved to be fail and that American Sign Language has proved to be successful for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing child? Another question, wasn’t she aware of bilingual-bicultural education? The fact that American Sign Language is a visual language, a recognized language at that and it is vital that the Deaf children to…

Snippets 6-17-2017

So here I am, blogging again for once in a long while since I haven’t written an article for a few weeks and I have been preoccupied lately to a point that I could rarely find any time to do something that I enjoy doing. As you know, we are now in summer which is usually that time a lot of people would be off to somewhere on vacations and this is one of few reasons that a lot of bloggers aren’t as active as they usually be in fall, winter, and spring seasons. Every website has statistics that the owners of the website(s) can check, almost every website receives the lowest traffic during in the summer and the most traffic that all websites get is usually in winter. Because in summer, a lot of people is out on vacations and the lowest usage of the internet is in the summer as well, because not many of people is at their home using the internet and even that a lot of us have smartphone or tablets with internet; the statistics still shows that the lowest internet usage is in the summer. It is interesting and it is good thing because it shows that some people can at least lives outside of the internet. Anyway, usually in every article I would…
